Magh Mela (also referred to as Magha Mela) is an annual Hindu festival and pilgrimage held at Prayagraj (formerly known as Allahabad) in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The 45-day festival (January to February) takes place on the banks of the Sangam – the sacred confluence of the rivers Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati. Millions of devotees gathers for ritual bathing on auspicious days, to stay for an extended period of time and dedicating themselves to prayers, meditation, fasting and charity. Sadhus (saints), spiritual teachers and pilgrims gather for religious discourses, worship and other communal activities. The Magh Mela is sometimes called the “mini Kumbh Mela”.
